GISBORNE HABOUR
ROBERT HARRIS CAFE SUNSET OVER KAITI BEACH
GISBORNE our home town is situated on the East Coast of the North Is. of New Zealand. The first City in the world to see the Sun, Gisborne is a predominately rural region surrounded by hills. It is home to many sheep and cattle Stations and in resent years forestry has also become part of the landscape. The "Flats" are mainly horticulture with numerous vinyards intermingled with citrus, kiwifruit and commercial market gardens.Lifestyle blocks are also popular and within easy distance of the town. The combination of country, town sea and surf has great appeal and since 2000 Gisborne has become a destination of greater interest to many tourists. There is a strong trend to organically grown produce of all kinds and the weekly Farmers market now has a strong following. Many of the local Restraunts and Cafes feature this produce, from wine and cheese, honey and vegetables to fresh fish and game. Our dogs are very much part of our lives and it is a lifestyle well suited to owning dogs.David and I both share a love of animals and over the years, between us, we have had many amazing different pets. For David it has been Horses and dogs and for me, dogs cats ands birds. There are always the extra special ones and for David an old Collie Cross he had as a Child and for me, the dog I grew up with, a foxy pommerain cross and my beloved German Shepherd Major. Finally there came a time when we were "dogless"After much reseach we came up with the Belgian Shepherd and it seemed to fit all the characteristic's we were looking for.A rare breed in NZ at the time we were amazed to find a Breeder in our home town,Donna Scragg of LAECHELON KENNELS.We are very greatful to her for introducing us to these wonderful dogs and for helping us so much at the beginning. Our oldest Belgian is Donna's first retired bitch "Echo" she is now 11 and from there followed two more Laechelon dogs Kaydin and Aria.At this stage the lack of new bloodlines within NZ concerned us and with no dog we could go to with Aria we decided to Import one ourselves. We will always be truely greatful to Craig and Julie Fynnmore of BELJEKALI KENNELS Australia for letting us have our Jamal. He has been, and is, everything and more than we could ever hope for. From the Aria /Jamal mating we have kept our first "KENTAZA" bitch KENTAZA SIRENA RAY OF LITE at just over a year old we are delighted with her progress and are looking forward to the future with her and all our dogs.
